John Carter and Tars Tarkas battle their way through the enemy lines in search of the kidnapped Dejah Thoris. Ultimately their quest leads them to an old for, Tal Mordin. During the battle an explosion rips through the scene, with assassins fleeing for their lives and John Carter and Tars Tarkas borrowing an abandoned flier to head back to Helium.
This issue was delayed for a month, due to renewed negotiations with Edgar Rice Burroughs' estate.

Volume Description
John Carter, Warlord of Mars was a 1977-1979 Marvel series loosely based upon the Barsoom series of novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs. This 28 issue series takes place during chapter 27 of Edgar Rice Burroughs' novel A Princess of Mars. The series was well received and won the 1978 "Favourite New Title Eagle Award" (a British comics award based on the voting of fans).
The series also had an John Carter Warlord of Mars Annual series that accompanied the monthly series.
