John Carter and Dejah Thoris find themselves battling mysterious winged human-like creatures after crash landing their flier. Both are taken prisoner and John Carter recounts the events that up to their crash landing. Suddenly a giant winged-man named Gar Karus invites John Carter to a feast and bids him to share his history. After the feast John Carter is reunited with Dejah Thoris as they must outwit their captors.

Volume Description
John Carter, Warlord of Mars was a 1977-1979 Marvel series loosely based upon the Barsoom series of novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs. This 28 issue series takes place during chapter 27 of Edgar Rice Burroughs' novel A Princess of Mars. The series was well received and won the 1978 "Favourite New Title Eagle Award" (a British comics award based on the voting of fans).
The series also had an John Carter Warlord of Mars Annual series that accompanied the monthly series.
