Issue Description
At Belinda’s urging, a down-on-her-luck mother uses her daughter, Sara, as a means to a better life. Soon, a promising college student enters a new world of glitz and glamour and a naïve little mermaid makes a deal with the infamous sea witch as both enter worlds wrought with betrayal and pain. This fish-out-of-water tale shows that even the best of intentions can lead to enduring heartache and proves the consequences of our fondest desires must be dealt with, whether we like it our not.
The Little Mermaid is contrasted against a young woman whose mother is being manipulated by Belinda. The young woman has lived in poverty her whole life but her mother thinks it is time that she start paying her back for her own years of suffering. Despite the fact that the young woman is working hard in university, her mother insists that she try to seduce a professional basketball player. The story has some similarities to the classic fairy tale though with some changes. The Little Mermaid comes to shipwreck and while her fellow mermaids drag the victims to a watery death, she saves the prince from drowning and desperate to enter the world of men she makes a deal with the Sea Witch to exchange her voice for a pair of legs. She meets again the prince and is wooed by him but without a voice she cannot convey her love to him. She instead has sex with him to show her love, but afterwards she discovers that he has sex with any woman he can find. Outside the Sea Witch chastises the Little Mermaid for her foolishness.

Volume Description
A series which aims to tell updated fairy tale stories, often with an added touch of horror to them. They are generally told as something of a parable to the modern conditions of rotating character. The stories are usually narrated by either Belinda or Sela. The two control two books of fairy tales and they are generally used to either help or hinder those listening to them. Over the course of the series the fairy tales get used in different ways, for instance the two narrators can control the characters in magical worlds, modern characters outside of the fairy tales become fairy tale characters, or the two narrators live through the fairy tales themselves to examine their actions. The series is also notable for its generally misleading covers, as they often contain revealing pictures of the female characters, the characters in the stories themselves are generally portrayed in a more respectable manner. The series is also noted for some of its variant covers which are not fairy tales representations, but mythical or legendary ones such as Cleopatra or Rosie the Riveter.
