Issue Description
When a mother goes to desperate measures to keep her daughter away from a troubled man Sela finds it’s time to step in… A woman commits the ultimate act of betrayal in order to protect her child but soon finds her actions have caused a horrifying chain of events and proves that too much meddling will only lead to tragedy.
The story begins in the modern day as a mother grows increasingly unsure of the actions of her teenage daughter towards her somewhat older step-brother. He is encouraging her to use drugs and when her mother intervenes she makes it clear she suspects him of wrongdoing. She arranges for her step-son to be murdered in a "gangland style robbery" but Sela shows up with the book first and tells her that she should read the Juniper Tree fairy tale. In this Clarinda is equally enamored with her step-brother, who is described as a philanderer and thief. Following somewhat with the usual story when she finds out that the too plan to run away she decapitates him. When the daughter finds out the truth from a bird at the juniper tree where he is buried, she hangs herself. Back in the modern day the mother calls off her plan, but her daughter eventually overdoses and dies. Sela is left wondering what has gone wrong as it was not the ending she was expecting.

Volume Description
A series which aims to tell updated fairy tale stories, often with an added touch of horror to them. They are generally told as something of a parable to the modern conditions of rotating character. The stories are usually narrated by either Belinda or Sela. The two control two books of fairy tales and they are generally used to either help or hinder those listening to them. Over the course of the series the fairy tales get used in different ways, for instance the two narrators can control the characters in magical worlds, modern characters outside of the fairy tales become fairy tale characters, or the two narrators live through the fairy tales themselves to examine their actions. The series is also notable for its generally misleading covers, as they often contain revealing pictures of the female characters, the characters in the stories themselves are generally portrayed in a more respectable manner. The series is also noted for some of its variant covers which are not fairy tales representations, but mythical or legendary ones such as Cleopatra or Rosie the Riveter.
