Issue Description

Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman decide that they have had enough of fighting villains. They decide to take their son, Franklin, and leave the Fantastic Four. Reed tells Ben that the team is his now. Ben asks him if he is sure, as he does not want him coming back when things get tough and taking over again. Reed promises that such will not happen. The new Fantastic Four team consists of the Thing, the Human Torch, Crystal (Johnny Storm's former girlfriend) and Sharon Ventura (aka Ms. Marvel). As Reed and Sue are leaving with Franklin, their son is able to determine that the new team is facing danger and Reed realizes the threat is Diablo, a foe first encountered long ago. Reed wants to go back and help, but Sue reminds him that he promised Ben not to intervene and so the trio leave the new FF to fight Diablo. The new Fantastic Four perform well in their first outing and Franklin is able to report to his parents that all is well back at FF headquarters. The story closes as Sue tells Reed that the new team can get along without them and that it is time for the three of them to go to their house.

Volume Description

The Fantastic Four were created in response to DC's Justice League and soon became the Silver Age's premier superhero team. Stan Lee and Jack Kirby collaborated on the opening 102 issues of the magazine, and told the adventures of Mr. Fantastic, the Thing, Invisible Woman and the Human Torch. This first volume ran through issue #416, before it was rebooted as Fantastic Four (vol. 2) (13 issues) as part of the short lived Heroes Reborn arc. The series was restarted again with issue 1 in Fantastic Four (vol. 3) before it reverted back to the original numbering with issue #500.
