THE SKRULLS ATTACK EARTH! From deep in space comes the Skrulls. A shape changing alien race with one goal, to destroy the Fantastic Four and conquer Earth. Can Reed Richards come up with a plan to stop them in time?
Plot SummaryAt the issues offset the Fantastic Four appear to be going round causing mayhem and carnage but it is soon revealed that four shapeshifting Skrulls (aliens from outer space) are masquerading as them in an attempt to change the public's opinion on the Fantastic Four so they are out of the way for a Skrull invasion. The real Fantastic Four meanwhile take refuge in a shack in the forest but are quickly discovered and put into prison. However, using their intelligence and abilities they quickly manage to escape and find the Skrulls who had masqueraded as them by the Human Torch attempting to sabotage a rocket launch so that the Skrulls will mistaking think that he is one of them and take him to their base. Once inside the base he then fires a signal flare so that rest of the Fantastic Four can come to his aid and the group rabidly defeat the Skrulls. The Fantastic Four using the Skrull's hidden space ship then make contact with the Skrull mothership and convince the Skrull high council that the planet Earth will be too difficult for them to conquer. Returning to earth three of the captured Skrulls are then forced to transform into cows before Reed Richards hypnotizes them into forgetting their past identities.
NotesThe inker of this issue is unknown although many believe George Klein is a likely possibility.The three Skrulls transformation into cows is an event often referenced as a joke in other Marvel comics.Fantastic Four (1961)

Volume Description
The Fantastic Four were created in response to DC's Justice League and soon became the Silver Age's premier superhero team. Stan Lee and Jack Kirby collaborated on the opening 102 issues of the magazine, and told the adventures of Mr. Fantastic, the Thing, Invisible Woman and the Human Torch. This first volume ran through issue #416, before it was rebooted as Fantastic Four (vol. 2) (13 issues) as part of the short lived Heroes Reborn arc. The series was restarted again with issue 1 in Fantastic Four (vol. 3) before it reverted back to the original numbering with issue #500.
