Issue Description
Continued from last issue. The sub-men have returned and renewed their assault on Ne-Ahn’s family’s cave. Emba’s mother is assaulted, and Anthro and Ne-Ahn come to the rescue. Even Lart gets into the fight, pushing a sub-man into the campfire. Anthro and Ne-Ahn push back their assault, with Anthro showing mercy to a defeated sub-man.
As the days turn cold, the family must deal with their survival. Ne-Ahn decides to bring his family to the land of his father’s father, which is in a much warmer climate. Anthro is sent out for food for the trip, and decides to also visit his love, Embra, to tell her of his leaving. While Anthro and Embra share a tender moment, they are interrupted by Embra’s father, Chief Tugg of the Horse Tribe. The chief chases Anthro away, as Anthro steals the chief’s horse to flee. Embra expects her father to be angry, but we find him to be amused. He admires Anthro’s dedication to Embra, and hopes that the two of them marry, but not until Embra’s older sister Ita marries first.
Anthro uses Chief Tugg’s horse while out on the hunt. They come across two ibexes doing combat. One ibex is killed in the combat, and Anthro brings it back to the cave for food. Ne-Ahn is prepared to attack Anthro upon his return, not recognizing him on horseback. Anthro calls out, and Ne-Ahn is overjoyed of his return with both ibex and horse.
With the food prepared, and everything packed, the family head out to the south. Along the way, Anthro leaves signs that will allow Embra to find him. After the family travels a ways, they come across a valley of green that Ne-Ahn’s father’s father spoke of. They head into the valley to investigate, and are welcomed like kings, with mentions of a prophecy fulfilled: a boy child with one lame leg on horseback.

Volume Description
After his debut in Showcase #74, Anthro gets his own ongoing series. Published in 1968, the bulk of the creative work of the series was handled by Anthro creator Howie Post. Post handled the writing, pencilling and inking of the series, while Joe Orlando served as the editor. Designed as an ongoing series, Anthro was canceled at issue #6, after an cost increase drove many of DC Comics' books from a 12 cents cover to a 15 cents cover. This resulted in a cliffhanger ending for issue 6 revolving around Anthro's fate with his love Embra. Anthro and his family would not be seen again until the Crisis on Infinite Earths, with the exception of a cameo for the celebratory Showcase #100.
