Issue Description
Anthro and his younger brother Lart are out to retrieve the woolly mammoth killed by Anthro in Showcase #74. After sending the scavengers fleeing from the body, Anthro and Lart are attacked by a young girl. She throws a spear at the two, and it goes wide. She flees, and Anthro goes in chase. Anthro catches her, and she bites his shoulder. When Anthro holds her firm, she gives up.We find that she is a member of Anthro’s deceased mother’s tribe. Anthro had thought that his mother’s tribe was killed off by his father’s Bear Tribe. Anthro finds out that the young woman attacked him because he killed Donta, her pet woolly mammoth. Anthro finds himself becoming attracted to Embra.
While Anthro speaks with Embra, Lart tries to keep the scavengers away from the dead woolly mammoth. However, a pack of wolves comes, led by the Giant Kano, a wolf 16 feet long. Anthro comes rushing back and kills Kano, but Lart is wounded. Anthro forgets about Embra, who flees back into the woods, in order to save Lart. Anthro carries Lart back to his family’s camp, where they watch over him as he heals, however, his leg will always remained crippled.
Anthro and his father Ne-Ahn return to harvest the meat of both the woolly mammoth and the Great Kano. Anthro wants to go search for the young woman, but his father wants him to take on a Chief’s daughter. Ne-Ahn sends him to where he thinks his mother’s tribe is, and Anthro is off.
Anthro finds the tribe, and meets their chief, Tugg. He finds out the woman he is after is the chief’s daughter, so he asks for her hand. Tugg has Anthro go through a series of feats, and Anthro succeeds at them all. Impressed, the chief awards his daughter to Anthro; however, instead of his beautiful daughter Anthro had his eye on, Tugg gives him Ita, her larger sister. Anthro flees, with the tribe in pursuit.

Volume Description
After his debut in Showcase #74, Anthro gets his own ongoing series. Published in 1968, the bulk of the creative work of the series was handled by Anthro creator Howie Post. Post handled the writing, pencilling and inking of the series, while Joe Orlando served as the editor. Designed as an ongoing series, Anthro was canceled at issue #6, after an cost increase drove many of DC Comics' books from a 12 cents cover to a 15 cents cover. This resulted in a cliffhanger ending for issue 6 revolving around Anthro's fate with his love Embra. Anthro and his family would not be seen again until the Crisis on Infinite Earths, with the exception of a cameo for the celebratory Showcase #100.
