Issue Description
The totems are dead, and Brother Blood rules The Red. Can Buddy reunite with his family in time to save life as we know it? Writer Jeff Lemire teams with superstar artist Rafael Albuquerque (AMERICAN VAMPIRE) for an epic new story that longtime fans and new readers alike will NOT want to miss!
After the events of last issue, Buddy Baker doubled over in pain and trapped in a cell with Mr. Hogue. Maxine is also in great pain but she is in the Red, with Socks, Shepard and animal crew of pirates.
Shepard senses something is wrong with the Totems and sends his bird to check it out. The bird then witnesses Brother Blood and the King of Limbs kill several of the other Totems, all the while the King of Limbs rants about how Brother Blood is the new Red Champion, and that all the other Totems are weak.
Meanwhile back in the real world, prison guards come to Animal Man's aide but Mr Hogue escapes by being pulled into the Red. Just then Animal Man's phone rings and it's Ellen, his wife, she is sobbing that Maxine is missing and she needs him help to find her.
Ellen doesn't know that Maxine is in the Red and upon learning the Totems are dead, Shepard and Sock are taking her to safety.
Meanwhile, The King of Limbs has brought Mr. Hogue and his Splinterflok into the Red to be Brother Blood's soldiers. Also Mr. Hogue reveals his plan to kill Animal Man, some of his members have taken control of the Hollywood Screen Awards and are planning on killing innocent men and women until Buddy Baker shows up.

Volume Description
A New 52 series starring Animal Man. This is the second Animal Man series and the first not under the Vertigo imprint since the first series switched over at Vertigo's founding in 1993, although the character has appeared for several years in the DCU following the cancellation of his previous ongoing.
After Travel Foreman left the book following its first arc, the series saw the return of Steve Pugh who had been the main artist during the character's last volume, specifically during Jamie Delano's run which largely inspired this series.
