Volume Description
Celebrating the 100th birthday of the spiritual father of Suske and Wiske, this spin-off series of Suske & Wiske is updated to modern day style. The main part of the story is located on the island Amoras, the same place where they had their first adventure. It takes place in the year 2047, the year in which Suske and Wiske would be 100 years.
This new series is meant to attract an older, grown up, audience. Suske and Wiske are older then they are in the original series and there's more violence and cursing in the issues. The style of the drawings is completely different than that of the original series, Suske still has a red shirt and Wiske still wears her white dress with red stripe, but nothing else is the same. The saga will consist of six issues which will round up the story line. Currently there are no plans to make this a new running series or for it to replace the old 'red cover' series.
How it came aboutFormer chief editor of the 'Suske en Wiske Weekblad' came up with the idea of a spin-off from the old style 'Suske en Wiske'. He'd done it before with 'Red Knight' (a spin-off of 'De Rode Ridder'). The family of Willy Vandersteen, who own the rights to his legacy, were immediately enthusiastic. They saw the spirit of their father in the presented story. Standaard Uitgeverij was against the idea at first, afraid that it would compete with the original line, but they later agreed to go with the idea and run the series.
The series will see issues appear once every six months or so, ending with the sixth issue in 2015.
