Midas of Metropolis: Superman's hoarding money, but giving none of it away! What's gotten into him?

After stopping some thieves from robbing Cyrus Brand, one of the richest men in the world, Superman starts charging the people he rescues from disasters. Soon, he amasses so much money that he builds his own bank in which to store it. He goes into competition with Brand, trying to beat him out of every deal for making money. It emerges that Superman had detected that Brand was running a counterfeiting ring, and he had to acquire all of Brand's money to sort out the real cash from the bogus bills.

Requiem for a Hot Rod: As Clark and Lois are participating in a vintage car rally, they are forced off the road by "Coffin" Crowley, leader of a gang of speed racers. Determined to teach Crowley a lesson, Clark accuses him of being a phoney and gets challenged to a game of chicken. After Clark wins the game by forcing Crowley off the road, he reveals Crowley's secret: the hood ornament on his car reflected the sun's glare into his opponent's eyes, making him swerve off the road.

In the early days of comics books, it was not the convention to name comics after specific characters. Rather comics bore generic names such as this one. Although this series featured Superman throughout, it thus bore this name, one which it has become famous for (and the name was kept after the launch of The New 52.) It was the fourth DC Comics title, and the first new one produced after Detective Comics spread beyond the one title (this was after it purchased More Fun Comics and New Adventure Comics.)
